Truth used to mean a firm thing.

Before it meant a correct fact, truth meant faithfulness — steadfastness. It comes down from the same root as tree, true and trust: a word that meant firm, solid, planted. The factual sense didn't arrive until the fourteenth century.

Thread is the other half. It's what holds a thing together over time — the seam that keeps its shape when the garment is worn hard and washed hot.
